On Nov. 7, young adults gathered at St. Gregory’s Parish in Oshawa for a new Faith and Fitness event centred around volleyball. From hiking and rock climbing to Muay Thai and now volleyball, Faith and Fitness, an initiative of the Office of Catholic Youth, not only promotes physical activity, but also nurtures spiritual growth and community among young adults.
The evening started off with Adoration and Confessions, followed by Mass, to give participants an opportunity to reflect and experience the Sacraments. The atmosphere was lively as attendees filled the gym afterwards, recharged and ready to play.
With eight teams participating, many teams chose names inspired by saints. Teams had the opportunity to play in three rounds, facing different teams each round. Fr. Paul Magyar, the Director of the Office of Catholic Youth, and Fr. Marijan Sisko, Pastor of St. Gregory's Parish, joined in the fun, playing alongside the teams. At the end of the three rounds, the two teams who accumulated the most points in total went head-to-head in the tournament finals.
After the matches, a pizza dinner was served, allowing for fellowship and reflection on the evening's activities. The night wrapped up with free-play volleyball, encouraging participants to continue enjoying sports and fellowship.
